| With 38 years in the food industry , 16 years have been spent creating processes and adding value to the basic raw materials, to make new products for sale to the major multiples.
Rod Knutton has Created added value processes for farmed scottish shellfish Rod Knutton was Managing Director and part owner of Macrae Foods Ltd. Here he created a new Tartan label and started selling roll mop herrings, olives, gherkins and various pickles in catering packs. Developed Cockle and Mussel production in vinegar and introduced them to the market, resulting in a turnover of £3m. Macrae Foods took over Ghillie & Glen, Aberdeenshire and Macrae Seafoods in Hull. It was decided to build a Product Development Unit at Ghillie & Glen, which Rod Knutton planned and built in 1995. By 1997 Macrae Foods had a turnover of over £10m, employing some 280 staff. Rod Knutton developed a new process of peeling onions in bulk for Crosse & Blackwell and Baxters of Speyside. Primary vegetable processing unit was set up in 1987, and currently peels in excess of 4,000 ton per Year giving a turnover of £1.5m +. Rod Knutton has designed and built a small laboratory for Cream Processing Control, at Mackies Dairy Co, Aberdeen, setting up a Cream Processing line. Also introducing Ultra-violet light water treatment plant for the private water supply to the dairy. Rod Knutton has developed, for the Milk Marketing Board, methods of refining lactose from Whey, removing the protein, leaving completely clear sugar with a bacto count of less than 10. |
